A rare and richly detailed French tapestry trim from the late 1700's to early 1800's, likely Louis XVI or Empire period. Woven in deep vegetal-dyed tones with stylized scrollwork, this textile was likely used as galloon for drapery, ecclesiastical garments, or furnishing trim. A true survivor, this fragment shows heavy wear and age, but retains its elegant beauty and historic significance — a museum-worthy textile for framing or study.
Condition: shows significant age-related wear consistent with its age. There are multiple areas of thread loss, fraying along the edges, small holes, and some thinning or separation in the weave. The colors have softened and faded beautifully over time, adding to its authentic, timeworn character. Structurally fragile in places and best suited for decorative use, framing, or study. Please view photos carefully for details. Measures 35" x 7.5".
